CCI4EU Deep Dive team visit in Slovakia
Slovakia is one step closer to an improved comprehensive cancer care and to defining the path of the patient for colorectal and breast cancer.
The European CCI4EU (Comprehensive Cancer Infrastructure for Europe) project has given us the opportunity to use “Deep Dive Interventions”. This means we have been able to obtain help of a team composed of 9 experts in oncology from various European countries. The chief institution for Deep Dive site visits is the National Cancer Institute headed by its director, Tomáš Alscher, MBA, MPH, and the local Deep Dive interventions coordinator is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Soňa Čierniková, PhD, research and education projects coordinator in NOI.
Foreign experts will share with you their know-how in the following areas:
- Comprehensive cancer center (CCC) accreditation
- Building comprehensive cancer infrastructure (CCI) in Slovakia, which includes the CCCs as well as other cancer centers, university hospitals, research institutions, faculties of medicine, relevant ministries, NOI, NHIC, VAIA and patients’ organizations.
- Defining the path of the patient for breast and colorectal cancer
We had the honor of welcoming an inspiring team of experts from CCI4EU Deep Dive Interventions led by Simon Oberst, the CCI4EU director and OECI (Organization of European Cancer Institutes) quality and accreditation director, in Slovakia from 2 to 5 December 2024. The first working meeting gathered the directors and representatives of oncology institutes (NCI, SECI, ESOI), University Hospital Bratislava, F. D. Roosevelt Teaching Hospital with Policlinic in Banská Bystrica, NICD and its Clinic of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, MoH SR, Ministry of Education, NOI, SOS, BMC SAS (public institution), Faculty of Medicine Comenius University and VAIA and representatives of patients’ organizations: League Against Cancer, NO to Cancer and Amazons, civic association, with a single goal: to improve cancer care in Slovakia!
We would like to thank the Deep Dive team, specifically Simon Oberst, Peggy Richter, Carmen Jeronimo, Peter Horák, Zsuzsa Kocsis, Mari-Leen Pärn, Ilze Engele, Mario Campone, Steven Le Gouill and their project manager Sylva Veselá for their valuable experience and precious help. In the following 12 months, we will work TOGETHER to improve the interconnection of cancer care, research and education in Slovakia. This is the most effective way to bring benefits to cancer patients.
