Ohio State University Department of Radiation Oncology in Columbus, Ohio, is one of the most prestigious centers which provide radiotherapy and participate in high-quality research and education. National Cancer Institute in Bratislava is a reference center for healthcare provision and clinical research in oncology in Slovakia. National Cancer Institute also includes National Oncology Institute which works to fulfil the National Oncology Program, which is why cooperation with a prestigious comprehensive cancer center in the United States has the potential to bolster oncology all around Slovakia.

The signing of the Memorandum on Academic Cooperation between the Ohio State University and the National Cancer Institute was endorsed by the Slovak ambassador in the USA Radovan Javorčík and the honorary consul of the SR in the USA, Stephen Zlatos, Esq.
The first online meeting of the Steering Committee established on the basis of the Memorandum on Academic Cooperation between NCI/NOI and Department of Radiation Oncology, James Hospital, Ohio State University (OSU) took place on December 27, 2023.
The OSU was represented by the head of the radiation clinic, Dr. Arnab Chakravarti, international training center program manager, Katherine Park, international training center research operations director, Kimberly Mahler, and chief administrator Julie Sussie. The Slovak party was represented by senior doctor of the NCI Department of Radiation Oncology, Dr. Zuzana Dolinská, NCI radiation oncologist Daniela Ščepanovič, NCI physicist Miroslava Dobroňová, MBA, senior doctor of the St. Elizabeth Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology Clinic, Dr. Martin Chorváth, senior doctor of the East Slovakia Oncology Institute Radiation Oncology Clinic and chief expert of the MoH SR for radiation oncology, Assoc. Prof. Pavol Dubinský, and for NOI, the director Dr. Mária Rečková and research and education projects coordinator Dr. Soňa Čierniková. We discussed the real options of cooperation for this year, specifically the opportunities for exchange fellowships, joint conferences and clinical trials in radiation oncology. A fellowship for the physicist Miroslava Dobroňová, MBA, at the OSU, is planned for this year from NOI grant, as well as an in-person visit of Dr. Arnab Chakravarti in Slovakia.
From April 10 – 21, 2023, the director of the National Oncology Institute, Mária Rečková, M.D., PhD, participated in working meetings at the James Comprehensive Cancer Center, Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus, OH.
This business trip focused on mapping the possibilities of cooperation between the National Cancer Institute, National Oncology Institute and American OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center and searching for options of eventual cooperation.
The meeting at the OSU took place upon invitation by prof. Arnab Chakravarti, chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology, and followed up on a fellowship of Dr. Michaela Švajdová within the NOI grant which took place from February 1 to March 1, 2020, and an initial online meeting with the chief expert of the MoH SR for radiation oncology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pavol Dubinský in July 2023. The objective was to visit James CCC in person and agree on the possibilities of cooperation not only in radiation oncology.
